Landmark fashion

If you’re interested in fashion, this slideshow from The Cut – The 50 Most Scandalous Dresses in History – is well worth a look.

Dresses like Bjork’s swan dress and Liz Hurley’s safety pin number are obvious inclusions, but I was interested to see Hussein Chalayan and read about Schiaparelli’s collaboration with Dali.

  1. On Michelle Obama’s “nude”/”flesh” dress, those terms have been a pet hate my entire life. Rather like how in scores of children’s books like Harry Potter paragraphs were devoted to every (white) character’s appearance but Angelina Quiddich Player was a “tall black girl”. Cos they all look the same. I realise that the more accurate shade “beige” is synonymous less with sexy skin-bearing and more with being the most boring colour on earth, but it doesn’t make nude and flesh less exclusionist and offensive as a consumer.

On the same line – “tribal” – ugh!
